Presented is a 1950s Exhibit Card sports vending machine. Exhibit Cards originally came from the Exhibit Supply Co. of Chicago, with the first cards appearing in 1921. The cards are often postcard size, at 3.5x5.5", but many are slightly smaller, at 3.375x5.375". As time went on, other companies began to produce very similar cards, and these cards are also referred to as Exhibit Cards. The offered metal vending machine measures 6.75x8.8", with a height of 14", extended to 15.6" by the top of the attached card display. On the front of the card display are two handwritten cards: One reads, "old [sic] Baseball Cards 10c[ents] each or 15 for $1.00" and the other reads, "old [sic] Football Cards 10c[ents] each or 15 for $1.00." On the baseball card side is a paper photo Exhibit Card of the New York Giants center fielder, Hall of Famer Willie Mays, circa early 1950s. The top of the paper image shows a stain and crinkling. On the football card side is a paper photo image of an Exhibit Card of Pro Football Hall of Famer Bulldog Turner, center-linebacker of the Chicago Bears. Under each of the above-mentioned Exhibit Cards is a coin entry slot that can accommodate a dime, with a handle that turns. The vending machine shows great use: some paint loss, chipping, scratches, and rust spots. A portion of the glass on the football display side is cracked, but it could be replaced. There is no key and no Exhibit Cards inside. The exhibit card vending machine weighs 21 lbs. The vending machine is from the 1950s, but it was used into the 1970s, and it has terrific vintage appeal, recalling the days when these Exhibit Card machines were a staple of boardwalks and amusement parks.
