Displayed are three 1930s Philadelphia Athletics American League Service Bureau original photographs: Al Simmons, Mule Haas, and Ed Rommel. Each of the black & white photographs measures 5x7". 1) Al Simmons is a Hall of Fame outfielder who played 12 seasons with the Athletics, and 20 years in the Major Leagues. Simmons was a part of the 1930 Athletics World Champions. He batted a career .334, with 307 home runs. On the 1930 World Champions, he batted .381, with 36 home runs and 165 RBIs. Simmons' photo shows him swinging a bat. On back, written in pencil by an unknown hand, is "Al Simmons/O.F." 2) George "Mule" Haas was also an Athletics outfielder on the 1930 World Champions. He batted .299 in 1930 and .292 for his career. Haas was on the Athletics from 1928-32 and again in 1938. The front of the Haas photo depicts two small editing marks in ink. The back reads "GEO. HAAS" in ink and George Hass OF, in pencil, both written by an unknown hand. 3) Ed Rommel pitched his entire Major League career with the Athletics (1920-32). His primary pitch was a knuckleball, and he had a 171-119 record, with a 3.54 ERA. He was also a 1930 World Champion with the Athletics. Written in pencil on the back of this photo is "Ed Rommel P." These photos have some rough wear at the corners and some very light foxing. Connie Mack, the Philadelphia Athletics' owner was short of funds after the stock market crash of 1929, and as he had done before with other Athletics powerhouses, Mack was forced to sell off players from his 1930s World Champions in order to keep the franchise afloat. The photos make great, vintage keepsakes.
