Displayed is a Charles "Sonny" Liston and Geraldine Liston signed cut from an album page. A third signature on the album page cut is unidentified. Ring magazine ranked Liston, an International Boxing Hall of Fame inductee, as the 10th ranked world heavyweight of all time. Liston was born in Arkansas circa 1930, and he grew up in extreme poverty. A series of crimes, including robberies and assaults, resulted in his being sent to prison and serving a term of over two years. He had begun boxing while incarcerated and eventually became a professional. Liston was the undisputed World Heavyweight Champion in 1962 after his knockout of Floyd Patterson. Liston again knocked out Patterson, this time in '63, to hold the crown. In '63 he also became the undisputed inaugural WBC Champion with his victory over Patterson. Liston lost his World Heavyweight crown to Muhammad Ali in 1964 and also lost in a controversial rematch with Ali, one rife with assertions from many boxing personages that Liston had thrown the fight. Liston died in 1970 under mysterious circumstances, with speculation that he might have been murdered. The offered cut album page measures approx. 3.2x4.6". Geraldine Liston was married to Sonny Liston from January 5, 1957, until his death in December 1970. The signatures were made in blue ballpoint ink, and the signatures rate 8/10.
