Howard Hughes was an important film producer, a pilot who set world speed records, an aerospace engineer who developed innovative aircraft, the owner of Hughes Aircraft, and a major investor in Las Vegas, Nevada. Displayed is a 1936 Howard Hughes International News PSA Type I Photo showing Hughes departing the plane he had flown from Los Angeles to Roosevelt Field in New York. Hughes was born in 1905, and he first came to national attention as a movie producer in the late 1920s. Some of his hit films: The Racket (1928), Hell's Angels (1930), and Scarface (1932). Hughes at one time owned RKO Pictures. He also owned the Hughes Aircraft Company and Trans World Airlines (TWA). Hughes suffered from attention deficit disorder and as he aged his ADD worsened, and he became very eccentric and lived as a recluse. At one point, he had been one of the richest men in the world. The offered photo measures 8x10". The suggested caption slug, which shows fading on top and paper loss, is pasted on the photo back, and reads, "HOWARD HUGHES REVEALS HIMSELF AFTER TEST HOP/Roosevelt Field, N.Y.-----Howard Hughes, well known flyer, exits from his sealed plane through the little door over the wing. He flew from Los Angeles making a stop at Dayton, Ohio. Hughes is testing a new type of radio, seen on the top of the plane, as a prelude to a round-world jaunt." The slug appears to be dated "8-11-36." The photo back also has an International News Photo stamp, a King Features Syndicate stamp, and, written in pencil by an unknown hand, "MOVIES MISC" in the upper right corner. The major portion of the photo is in nice condition, but there are folds and creases, mostly in the corners. The black & white photo has been encapsulated and PSA Certified TYPE I AUTHENTIC.
