Displayed is a 1981 Laney High School [Wilmington, North Carolina] Yearbook that features five black & white individual or team photos of senior Michael Jordan, plus a photo of the Jordan Family. This is not Jordan's personal copy, but he is very featured in the yearbook. The yearbook foreshadows Jordan's stardom, but probably no one could imagine in 1981 that he would be a part of the North Carolina University National Champions as a freshman, and later lead the Chicago Bulls to an amazing Double Three-Peat of NBA Championships and be considered by many as the pro basketball G.O.A.T.
The cover of the yearbook is multi-colored, and it shows the school's nickname, "Buccaneers" 13 times, plus "1981." The yearbook measures 9.3x12.2", and it has 272 pages, not including covers. Jordan first appears in the yearbook on page 2, and he is pictured sitting on the hood of a car, possibly his, which has the front vanity plate of "Magic Mike." The caption to the photo reads, "To know basketball is one thing, but to know you have the ability to be one of the best is another. Mike Jordan wins our hearts as he reaches for stardom." In the yearbook section on varsity basketball, Jordan appears in a team photo on Page 200 and also in a photo of him going up for a dunk. Yes, MJ was wearing Number 23. Verbiage about Jordan is on Page 201, reading, in part, "Special thanks go to a six-foot-five-inch All-American named Mike Jordan... he won the heart of North Carolina's coach Dean Smith. Later Jordan signed a letter of intent to lead him toward the Tarheels...." The yearbook shows the Laney Buccaneers with a 15-3 regular season record in basketball. All of Page 203 is devoted to Jordan, with three photos: 10 eating lunch, shooting a free throw in a game, posing for a press release photo when he chose Chapel Hill (North Carolina) for college. Jordan also played baseball in high school. On Page 218, the Jordan Family is pictured after the family donated fifteen baseball fields for completion of the high school baseball field. MJ is pictured in a baseball team photo on Page 219. The Jordan-related photos in the yearbook have marks, such as arrows, near them, made by an unknown hand. Some other occasional parts in the yearbook have marks or notations made in blue ink by an unknown hand. Overall, the yearbook shows moderate use and is in very nice condition. The offered yearbook provides a great look at Michael Jordan, recognized as already being on the road to great stardom while still in high school.
