Presented is a riveting Rocky Marciano signed photograph. The image appears somewhat surreal, with Marciano being portrayed in great detail. Born Rocco Marchegiano, in Brockton, Massachusetts, in 1923, Marciano held the World Heavyweight Championship from 1952-56. He fought as a civilian amateur and later became an Army boxing champion during his service during World War II. Marciano had a very strict training regimen. He packed an amazingly powerful punch, and he had an "iron" jaw. Trainer Charley Goldman taught the relatively short Marciano, listed as 5'10", to crouch down and use his lack of height to advantage, making him hard to hit in a crouch. Rocky was taught by Goldman to punch upward. Marciano used a brawling style, seeking to move in close on his opponent, where Marciano could outslug the opposition. Marciano had a 49-0 professional record, and he is the only boxing World Heavyweight Champion to have retired undefeated in his professional fights. Amazingly, 43 of Marciano's 49 victories were by knock-out. Some of Marciano's most famous championship fights included two victories over both Jersey Joe Walcott and Ezzard Charles, and a win over Archie Moore. Also famous is his non-title victory, on Oct. 26, 1951, over an aging Joe Louis, in an 8th Round TKO. After the fight, Marciano cried because he was upset that he had had to defeat Louis, a hero of his boyhood. Marciano passed away on August 31, 1969, in a plane crash in Iowa. Rocky was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame. The offered artistic rendering measures approx. 6.5x8.25". It is beautifully matted and framed to 16x19". Marciano signed the photo of the drawing in a big and bold signature with a black marker. The artist has signed the drawing and dated it as "1959." The offering is in EXCELLENT condition, and it comes with a PSA/DNA Letter of Grading and Authenticity with a Grade Certification: 81514627, an Auto Certification: D54015, and an Autograph Grade of 8. The offering also comes with a 1966 handwritten Letter of Provenance from Leon Jones, former owner of the drawing.
