Presented is a Gil Hodges Los Angeles Dodgers signed color photo, a striking image of the Hall of Fame first baseman and manager. Hodges was posthumously inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2023, and many baseball pundits felt that his election was long overdue. Hodges could do it all on a baseball field. He broke into the Major Leagues in 1943, playing in one game for the Brooklyn Dodgers at third base. Hodges served in combat with the U.S. Marines in World War II. After the war, he became a catcher in Brooklyn's minor league system. He played for the Dodgers in '47 as a catcher and then was shifted to first base during the 1948 season. During the 1950s, he hit more home runs than any other right-handed National League batter. A terrific fielder, he won Gold Gloves in the first three years they were awarded and would have won many more if the award was instituted before 1957. Hodges wasn't particularly fast, but he was a wonderful baserunner who always ran the bases intelligently. He played with the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers (1943 & 1947-61) and the New York Mets (1962-63). His career MLB batting average is .273 with 370 home runs. He managed the Washington Senators and the New York Mets, and he was the skipper of the 1969 Miracle Mets who became World Champions. The offered photo measures 7.75x10.25", matted and framed to 13.6x16.6". There are a few hardly noticeable tiny spider lines on the photo, but it is in otherwise excellent condition. Hodges signed the photo in nicely scripted blue ink. The offering comes with a PSA/DNA LOA.
