Original film negative capturing Lou Gehrig, taken by noted Chicago baseball photographer George Burke. The legendary "Iron Horse" is pictured striking a batting pose on the sideline prior to a game at Comiskey Park. Positive attribution to Burke can be made due to the inventory number ("268-A5") printed along the bottom border (this inventory number sequence was typical for Burke and can be seen on many of his negatives and finished photos). The number "10" is also written in the lower right corner. Since Burke was based in Chicago, which hosted two Major League clubs, he had access to all the Major League players during his long career. Gehrig was a frequent subject for Burke, however, we cannot recall having seen a Type I photo made from this negative. The negative (5x7") remains in Excellent condition. Please note: the positive image seen on our website is for illustrative purposes only and does not accompany the negative; only the negative is offered in this lot.
