Presented is a rare 1937 Joe Marty Chicago Cubs baseball cap. Marty was a teammate of Joe DiMaggio on the 1935 and '36 San Francisco Seals of the Pacific Coast League. Mostly a center fielder, Marty played five Major League seasons: Chicago Cubs (1937-39) and Philadelphia Phillies (1939-41). In 1937, when Marty game wore this cap, he batted .290 in 88 games for the Cubs. For his career, Marty hit .261, with 44 home runs and 222 RBIs. The highlight of his career came in the 1938 World Series. Although his Cubs were beaten by the New York Yankees in the World Series, Marty drove in five of the nine runs that Chicago scored in the Series and led the Cubs' batters with a .500 batting average, going 6-for-12. The offered game used cap is a near-impossible style of cap to find. It has a blue shell with green material under the brim, a red felt "C" sewn on the front, with a red button on top of the cap. No size is indicated. It shows fine use, but it is still in excellent shape. The leather band inside has Spalding logo stamped into it. The hat was won by Joe Marty, and we know this as it was originally displayed in the Ohio Baseball Hall of Fame, and still has their identification tag inside with "Joe Marty Chicago Cubs 1937" written on it.
