Austrian one-shilling note signed by Babe Ruth. PSA has encapsulated the note and certified the signature as Authentic. Ruth has signed the bill in black fountain pen along the base, with the signature grading "8/10." Over the past forty years Lelands has sold thousands of Babe Ruth signed items, but the offered piece is most certainly a first. It also comes with an interesting story. This bill originally belonged to our consignor's father, who received it as a gift from his aunt. The aunt happened to be dining at a German restaurant in New York one day when Ruth came in. Knowing her nephew would love to have Ruth's autograph, but not having a ball or photo, or anything similar for him to sign, she reached into her purse and grabbed the first suitable item she could find: this Austrian one shilling note. The note (4.5x2.5"), which displays a fold and light creases, was subsequently affixed to a cardboard backing of equal dimensions, which in turn was mounted in an album. It has since been removed from the album, but paper residue remains on the cardboard mount as a result of the removal process.
