Presented is a group of black & white player photos of the 1924 Washington Senators, the World Champions of 100 years ago. Most or all of the photos were apparently cut from one or two Washington Senators' team photos. The headshot photos measure in slightly varying sizes, but most are approx. 2.4x3.5". There are 32 photos, almost all are players, but a few are not, such as a trainer and team officials. The 1924 Senators, under manager Bucky Harris, won the AL Pennant and in the World Series, the Senators defeated the New York Giants in seven games. A few of the player photos, usually action ones, are smaller, averaging about 1.8x3.5". The cut photos: Hall of Fame outfielder Goose Goslin, and Hall of Fame outfielder Sam Rice. Goslin batted .334 in '24, and Rice hit .344. Photos of stars: Tom Zachary, Muddy Ruel, Roger Peckinpaugh (two photos, head, and action), Joe Judge (two photos, head, and action), Ossie Bluege (two photos, head, and action), a smaller photo of Nick Altrock, a famous baseball "clown" and a former Major Leaguer who pitched in one last season game in '24, at 47 years old, as a stunt. Plus: McNeely, Magridge, Hargrave, Shirley, Tate, and more. Not included: Hall of Famers Walter Johnson and Bucky Harris. The cut photos are not precision cuts and the sizes vary. The photos show some darkening, to be expected after a century. Some of the photos have folds, and on many photos, a slight indention appears in the front corners from where the back of the corners was affixed to a photo album in the past. Taylor's photo and a few others have paper loss and a fold. An unknown hand has inscribed the name (usually just the last name) of each player in red ink at the bottom of most photos. The individual cut photos contain many of the star players on one of the Washington Senators' best teams.
