Mahomes is the youngest part-owner of a major sports franchise in United States history, as he became a part-owner of the Kansas City Royals in 2020, when he was only twenty-five years old. Mahomes' interest in baseball comes naturally, as he is the son of Patrick Mahomes Sr., a right-handed pitcher for 11 seasons in the Major Leagues. Mahomes Sr. has a 42-39 career record, with a 5.47 ERA, mostly in relief. He pitched for the Minnesota Twins, New York Mets, Boston Red Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates, Texas Rangers, and Chicago Cubs. His best season was in 1999, when he was 8-0 with a 3.68 ERA with the New York Mets, all in relief.
