Known as Mr. Padre, Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn played 20 Major League seasons, 1982-2001, all with the San Diego Padres. Offered is a 2001 Tony Gwynn San Diego Padres game worn jersey. The right fielder was an amazing hitter who batted .338 lifetime, with 3,141 hits and eight NL batting titles. The 15-time All-Star also won 10 Gold Gloves. In 2001, when the offered jersey was worn by Gwynn, Tony had lost much of his power, which was never his forte, as he had only one home run. However, he could still hit for average, and used mostly as a pinch hitter, he batted .324. The offered white knit jersey has Padres across the chest in sewn-on blue letters with white trim. Beneath Padres is 19 in sewn-on blue numerals. On the left sleeve is a sewn-on San Diego Padres patch. The left front tail has a Russell Athletic MLB AUTHENTIC manufacturer's tag. Below the above tag is another tag showing the jersey to be 100% polyester and a size 50. Six silver-white buttons run down the front. A 9-11 tribute flag patch over MLB logo is on the back neck. We can see the outline of the MLB logo from the inside. This means the jersey was either worn before and/or after September 11th. On the top of the back is GWYNN in blue sewn-on letters. Below Gwynn is 19, in sewn-on blue numerals. The jersey shows heavy wear, yet it remains in very nice condition.
