Displayed is a late 1960s Baltimore Orioles' BOMB 'EM BIRDS Memorial Stadium banner. The modern Baltimore Orioles' first season was 1954, after the St. Louis Browns moved to Baltimore. In the 1950s, the Baltimore Orioles were always in the second division, but starting in 1960, the team improved and was usually in the first division in the 1960s. The 1960s Orioles featured four future Hall of Famers: pitcher Jim Palmer, third baseman Brooks Robinson, shortstop Luis Aparicio, and outfielder Frank Robinson. The Orioles won the 1966 World Series and won the pennant again in 1969, losing out in that season's World Series to New York's Miracle Mets. The canvas banner measures 33.5x36.5". The banner appears to have been white originally, but the passage of over half a century has turned the material into a beige color. Machine-printed on the banner in black lettering is BOMB 'EM BIRDS. In the middle of the banner is an image of a happy and determined Baltimore Orioles mascot, depicted as an Oriole bird batting. On each top corner is a grommet, for hanging the item. The banner has some minor discoloration in a few places, and a few minor stains. At one point it seems the banner was folded into sixteen sections for storage, and creases from the folding are still evident. Overall, the banner is in nice condition, and it brings back memories of some Baltimore Orioles golden years.
