Displayed is a 1968 Jim Fregosi game used All-Star Game bat. Fregosi played in the Major Leagues from 1961-78. He played for four teams but was mostly known for his time as a Los Angeles/California Angel (1961-71). Fregosi also played for the New York Mets, the Texas Rangers, and the Pittsburgh Pirates. Later, he also managed four clubs. He was mainly a shortstop, but as he became older, he often played third or first base. He was a 6-time All-Star and won a Gold Glove Award as a shortstop in 1967. He hit a career .265, with 151 home runs. In the first half of his career, he finished in the first 15 places for the AL MVP in four seasons. Later on, injuries affected his play. Fregosi was a key part of a well-known trade, infamous for Mets' fans, that brought him to the New York Mets for the 1972 season and sent Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan to the California Angels. Injuries and a resultant weight gain slowed Fregosi, and Ryan soon bloomed into a pitching ace, winning 19 games in '72 and getting on the fast track for the Hall of Fame. The offered bat is a Hillerich and Bradsby 125 Louisville Slugger. Etched into the barrel: ALL STAR GAME/JIM FREGOSI (facsimile signature), 1968 HOUSTON. On the knob is number 11, in black marker by an unknown hand. The bat exhibits very light use, and it is in excellent condition. It has a length of 34.8" and a weight of 33 ounces.
