For anyone who likes the great Stan "The Man" Musial (and was there ever anyone who didn't) is a slew of Musial signatures, an offering comprised of 100 autographs of one of the greatest hitters, and one of the most liked and respected players, in Major League history. Musial, a Hall of Fame outfielder and first baseman, played from 1941-63, with the exception of '45 when he was in military service during World War II, and he spent his entire Major League career with the St. Louis Cardinals. Musial was given his nickname when he was batting in Brooklyn's Ebbets field against the home team Dodgers, and he was just killing the "Bums." As Musial approached the batter's box, the Brooklyn fans began saying over and over, and louder and louder, "Here comes that man!" St. Louis sportswriter Bob Broeg was covering the game, and he wrote that the Brooklyn fans were calling Musial "The Man," and the affable Musial soon had his nickname. The left-handed batter had his unique crouch and his peek-around look as he peered out at the pitcher from behind his right forearm. Musial batted .331 lifetime, with 3,630 hits. He was a 3-time World Champion and a 3-time NL MVP. He won seven NL batting titles and there is a statue of him outside the Cardinals' home, Busch Stadium III. The offered trove of Musial signatures is comprised of five categories: 1) Ten (10) signed checks. Eight of these checks, measuring 3.1x8.1" and drawn on the American National Bank of St. Louis, are included. Musial signed each as "Stanley Musial" in fine tip black marker or blue ink. One check is to the "St. Louis Club" and another to a local doctor, etc. There are also two checks written on the joint bank account of Stan and Lillian Musial (Stan's wife). These checks, of roughly the same dimensions as the American National Bank checks, were drawn on the Boatman's Bank of St. Louis and appear to be gifts to relatives. 2) Twenty-five 3.6x6" bio cards, each having a small color photo of Musial and a brief bio. These cards each contain a Musial signature, in fine tip black marker, on an affixed sticker. 3) Thirty-five (35) cut signatures. Averaging dimensions of approx. 0.75x2.25", Musial used signed each with his usual neat signature using a variety of pens and signing in blue or black ink. 4) Ten (10) trading cards with cuts glued on. The cards are Topps Turn Back The Clock items with a black and white photo of Musial crossing home plate on April 13, 1962, with his 1,869th NL run, the new record. The cut signatures, in blue ballpoint, are affixed to the cards. 5) Twenty (20) die-cuts of Musial with his signatures on stickers. The die-cuts are in color, on card stock, and stand 15" tall. Musial signed each sticker in blue fine tip marker. The offering is in EXCELLENT condition, and it makes a great collection with plenty of duplication to allow for trading or gifting.
