Presented is a pair of vintage autographs of musical icons: Irving Berlin and Yehudi Menuhin. Born in 1888 in what was then known as the Russian Empire, Irving Berlin was probably the foremost contributor to the Great American Songbook. Both a composer and lyricist, Berlin got his musical start as a song plugger in New York City. He was a self-taught musician who could only play in the key of F-sharp, and for most of his life could not read music. He won an Academy Award, a Tony, and an Emmy. He had 25 songs that were national number one hits, and he composed the music for 20 Broadway shows and 15 films. Among his estimated 1,500 songs: White Christmas, Easter Parade, Blue Skies, What'll I Do?, Always, and There's No Business Like Show Business. His most famous hit is God Bless America. As composer Jerome Kern said: "Irving Berlin has no place in American music; he is American music." Berlin signed in blue ink. The Berlin cut signature is on a piece of paper or card stock measuring 2.2x4.1". The foregoing is affixed to a larger piece of paper or card stock measuring 3.1x5.1". At the bottom of the larger piece are two thin plastic strips upon which is printing from a labeling gun reading, IRVING BERLIN/ONE OF THE WORLDS GREATEST COMPOSERS. The cut signature has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA CERTIFIED as AUTHENTIC AUTO. Yehudi Menuhin was an American-born British violinist and conductor, and he is widely considered to be one of the greatest violinists of the 20th Century. He played a Soil Stradivarius violin. During World War II, he gave concerts for Allied soldiers and later gave a concert for survivors of the notorious Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. He worked on recordings with fellow musicians like Ravi Shankar and Stephane Grappelli. His many honors include the Glenn Gould Prize, for lifetime achievement and appointment to the Order of the British Empire (Knighthood). Menuhin signed in blue/black ink. The Menuhin signature is on a piece of paper or card stock measuring 2.1x4.25". This piece is affixed to a larger piece of card stock measuring 3.4x4.75". On the bottom of the larger piece are two thin plastic strips on which printing from a labeling gun reads: YEHUDI MENUHIN/ WORLDS LEADING VIOLINIST. The Menuhin signature has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA Certified as AUTHENTIC AUTO.
