"I did it my way," sang Frank Sinatra in his hit recording, and Sinatra wasn't just singing the words to a song; he was singing the words to his life. Presented is the opportunity to possess an item that will be sure to generate interest in any collection: a Frank Sinatra smoked cigarette from 1975. Originally sourced from an estate in Rhode Island from the family of the individual who picked up this butt. Acquired after his May 12th, 1975 show at the Providence Civic Center. From his days as an idol of teenage girls known as "Bobby Soxers," to starring with the big bands, such as those of Harry James and Tommy Dorsey, to his time when he fell out of favor, and then to the times when he made miraculous comebacks, Sinatra always did it his way. He sold over an estimated 150 million recordings and won 11 Grammy Awards. He later made himself into a movie star as well, winning an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor in a Lead Role for his performance as a heroin addict in The Man with the Golden Arm, and an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor as the soldier Maggio in the drama, From Here to Eternity. One of Sinatra's nicknames was The Chairman of the Board, but later in life he also picked up the moniker of Ol' Blue Eyes. Just a sample of his biggest hits reads like a chapter from The American Songbook: Fly Me to the Moon; Strangers in the Night; New York, New York; That's Life, The Way You Look Tonight. Sinatra was a big baseball fan, and his poignant recording of There Used to be a Ballpark Here is particularly touching to any baseball aficionado. The offered smoked cigarette is a filtered True cigarette butt, approximately 1.5" long. The white cigarette, with blue lines, is encased in a Lucite block that measures 3.75x4.25" with a thickness of 1". The cigarette rests on thin blue "floor" and the rest of the encasement is clear. On the bottom of the front is a plaque that measures 1x3.5". Inscribed on the plaque is, Francis Albert Sinatra May 12, 1975. In '75, Sinatra recorded the song, I Believe I'm Gonna Love You, which reached number 2 on the U.S. Adult Contemporary charts. The offering has some very small chips on two front corners and a tiny stain on the top of the plaque. Otherwise, the item is in excellent condition. With Sinatra as one of the preeminent entertainers of the Twentieth Century, and as the personification of "cool" in his time, imagine the offering on the bar in any man cave and the excited sharp interest it will engender in all who encounter it.
