"There ain't much to being a ballplayer, if you're a ballplayer," said Inaugural Hall of Famer Honus Wagner, who by all accounts was definitely a ballplayer. Presented is a Honus Wagner autograph display that sets off Wagner's cut signature that gives the display a vintage feel. Wagner played 21 Major League seasons. After playing from 1897-99 with the National League's Louisville franchise, Wagner played the remainder of his career with the Pittsburgh Pirates (1900-17). Known for his fine defensive play at shortstop, Wagner was a versatile player who also played significantly in the infield at first and third base, and also in the outfield. He batted a career .324, winning eight NL batting titles. He had 3,420 hits, and he was a member of the 1909 Pittsburgh Pirates World Champions. He was extremely popular both with players and fans, and so ethical that he refused to take money for promoting cigarettes because he felt that he didn't want to promote smoking to youngsters. The display includes a 7x9.75" colorized Wagner photo. Wagner's cut signature, on a piece of white paper measuring approx. 1x2.5" is affixed to the photo. Beneath the photo is a 3.5" long title plaque which reads, HONUS WAGNER. The photo and cut signature are matted and framed to 11x13". The photo does exhibit a few wrinkles and folds with very slight paper loss, but Wagner's cut signature is clearly written in black ink from a steel tip fountain pen. The display comes with a JSA Authentication that states, in part, "A white paint carefully brushed around the signature has been noted."
