A very early example of a tackle football helmet worn by San Francisco 49er Hank Norberg circa 1947. The headgear features Norberg's name written on ink on the inside and is stamped AIRLITE CUSHION RUBBER. The helmet, which shows significant use, has been painted white, though colors such as red and silver are visible underneath. The item's chin strap is missing a clasp. During Norberg's time with the 49ers, the team played in the All-America Football Conference, a significant challenger to the NFL. The two leagues reached a merger in December of 1949 and San Francisco was incorporated into the NFL.
