Significant 1974-75 Danny Gare jersey sourced from the man himself. White home jersey originated from the high-scoring forward's personal collection, with traditional circular Sabres running buffalo/crossed swords logo crest across the chest. Number 18 is on shoulders and back in blue-on-yellow tackle twill; the nameplate - which sits above the rear number - is a story in its own right, as (per the included MeiGray documentation) such plates were added only for televised home games and otherwise removed, accounting for what appears to be the outline of a previous nameplate, though the current nameplate was the last one put on for use in games. Two notable games in which Gare wore a nameplate were Game One of the 1975 Semi-Finals when Gare scored a game-winning goal in OT, and the second is when the Soviet Wings faced the Sabres in the 1976 Super Series. It is likely that Gare wore the jersey in at least one, or both games. The outline of the previous nameplate appears to line up to the Semi-Finals game, and the current nameplate shows the same alignment from the Super Series game. YouTube has videos of each game, but due to lack of clarity, we cannot find a definitive photo-match. Extensive wear is apparent with no less than a dozen team repairs, fight strap, slash marks, paint transfers, and abrasions throughout. The drawstring for the collar tie is not present. Rawlings size 46 and washing instructions tags are sewn inside the rear tag. In only their fifth season after joining the NHL as an expansion team in 1970, the Sabres went on a magical run to the '74-75 Stanley Cup Finals, highlighted by a stunning victory over the powerhouse Montreal Canadiens in the Wales Conference finals. Gare's overtime goal at 4:42 of Game 1 set Buffalo off on what would be a 6-game series victory against the Habs. MeiGray documentation includes a signed letter from Gare, attesting that his is the first jersey he wore in his eight seasons in Buffalo. He netted an impressive 31 goals in that rookie campaign, following with 50 goals in his sophomore season.
