Displayed is a Dale Earnhardt Sr. Goodyear Eagle racing tire. Earnhardt, born in 1951, was an American stock car driver and racing team owner who raced from 1976-2001 in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series, now known as the NASCAR Cup Series. Earnhardt was a very aggressive driver whose hard-driving style earned him three nicknames: The Intimidator, The Man in Black, and Ironhead. Most memorably, Earnhardt drove the No. 3 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing. One of the legendary drivers in the history of NASCAR racing, Earnhardt in 1998 was named as one of NASCAR's 50 Greatest Drivers. He won 76 Winston Cup races and 24 Winston Cup exhibitions to give him 100 total Winston Cup wins, only one of four NASCAR drivers to have at least 100 wins. Earnhardt's wins include four victories in Winston 500 races (1990, 1994, 1999, and 2000). He also won the Daytona 500 in 1998. Earnhardt is tied with Richard Petty and Jimmie Johnson for the most NASCAR Cup Series championships, at seven. On Feb. 18, 2001, Earnhardt died in a last-lap crash during the Daytona 500. His car collided with Ken Schrader's, after contact with Sterling Martin's car. Earnhardt died from a basilar skull fracture. Earnhardt's death, and its subsequent investigation, led to many safety reforms in NASCAR. Earnhardt is the father of NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt, Jr. The senior Earnhardt was posthumously selected for numerous Halls of Fame. To name a few: Motorsports Hall of Fame of America, International Motorsports Hall of Fame, and NASCAR Hall of Fame, in the Inaugural Class of 2010. The offered tire has a stamped, yellow-colored GOODYEAR #1 EAGLE. On the aforementioned #1, written by hand in marker or pen by an unknown hand, is a partially-illegible, VAD001(?)/7407R/2?/RF 6. The tire, in raised numerals and lettering, has a D number code: D 5974, which indicates the mold, construction, and compound combination. In hand-painted blue numerals and lettering, the tire reads SET 8/ RF (right front). In raised lettering, the tire shows, 27.5 (diameter) x 12.0 (tread width) - 15 (bead diameter). Under the above, also in raised lettering, the tire shows, For racing purposes only. Not for highway use. EAGLE, and 5XLM MB59 EGR, Radial, 29, and Made in U.S.A. The offered tire weighs 23.5 lbs. The offering comes with a Winston Cup Souvenirs of Mooresville Certificate of Authenticity that states, in part, "Winston Cup Souvenirs of Mooresville, Inc. hereby certifies that the tire provided with this document was used by: RCR ENTERPRISES, INC. The GOODYEAR RACING DIVISION identifies it as from the car driven by Dale Earnhardt. WCSOM, INC. June 1, 1999". The offered tire shows great wear and yet remains in nice condition.
