Displayed is a 1972 Old Timers' Day professional model Phil Rizzuto bat. Known as the Scooter, the Hall of Famer had a 13-year Major League career, all with the New York Yankees (1941-42, 1947 & 1949-53). The 5-time All-Star was a defensive wiz and noted for small ball on offense. When he retired, he was second on the all-time MLB list for double plays (1,217), behind only Luke Appling, and second on the AL all-time list for career fielding percentage for a shortstop (.968), behind only Lou Boudreau. The Hillerich & Bradby Louisville Slugger has F4 stamped on the knob. On the barrel is etched, 26th ANNUAL OLD TIMERS DAY/Phil Rizzuto (in a facsimile autograph)/YANKEE STADIUM - 1972. He was a key part of 10 Yankee pennant winners and seven Yankee World's Champions. After his playing career, Rizzuto had a 40-year run as a radio and television broadcaster covering the Yankees. Rizzuto was well-known for using his trademark expression, "Holy Cow", as an expression of his surprise. The bat is 34" long, and it weighs 29.5 ounces. The bat shows some use, but it remains in excellent condition.
