The Los Angeles Angels Major League team started as a 1961 American League expansion team. Offered is an early 1960s Los Angeles Angels Bobbin' Head. The Angels used the Los Angeles Wrigley Field, a former minor league ballpark, as the team's first home, and then played at Dodger Stadium from 1962-66. The club then moved into its new home, Anaheim Stadium, in 1966. The franchise has come full circle with the team's name: Los Angeles Angels (1961-64); California Angels (1965-96); Anaheim Angels (1997-2004); Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (2005-15); and then returning to the team's original name - Los Angeles Angels (2016-21). The offered Bobbin' Head is most likely from a time between 1962-63. In the franchise's initial '61 campaign, the team finished in 8th place in the 10-team American League with a 70-91-1 record. The team's star was left fielder Leon "Daddy Wags" Wagner, who hit 28 home runs. When the Angels moved to Dodger Stadium and shared the facility with the Dodgers, the Angels added pitcher Bo Belinsky, who received national publicity for dating Hollywood stars such as Ann Margret, Tina Louise, and Juliet Prowse. Taking time for baseball as well, Belinsky pitched a no-hitter against the Baltimore Orioles on May 5, 1962. The charming item has a height of 6" and a base width of 2.6". The front reads, Angels/Los Angeles." It's engaging to see that the artistic creator of the Bobbin' Head gave the depicted generic player the face of a smiling child, symbolizing both the young age of the franchise, and the happiness of any baseball beginning. The offering is in EX-MT condition, with the maker's stampings, and "(c) 1962" on the bottom of the base.
