Seattle Mariners batting helmet worn by Hall of Fame outfielder Ken Griffey Jr. during his 1997 MVP season. Griffey has beautifully signed the helmet in silver paint pen on the brim, with the signature grading 9/10. The helmet features the Mariners' team logo on the front and Griffey's uniform number, 24, in white numerals on the reverse. Extensive use is displayed throughout, including heavy soiling and scratches on the exterior and soiling to the leather headband. The interior foam back pad has detached, but accompanies the helmet. Produced by the American Baseball Cap (ABC) company. The date code on the interior indicates that it was produced in April, 1997. A "7 1/8" size label is also located on the interior. 1997 was perhaps Griffey Jr.'s finest all-around season in baseball. Playing in 157 games, Griffey batted .304 with career and league-high totals in home runs (56), RBI (147), and slugging percentage (.646). Those numbers helped him win the American League MVP Award at season's end. One of the greatest sluggers of the modern era, Griffey retired in 2010 with 630 home runs, which ranks seventh on the all time list.
