Displayed is a 1962 Joe Torre game used Milwaukee Braves' gray short-sleeved jersey worn by the Hall of Fame manager for road games. In '62, Torre was a 21-year-old catcher in his third Major League season. His older brother, first baseman Frank Torre, had already played on the Braves before Joe's arrival in the Majors. Torre played 18 Major League seasons: Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves (1960-68), St. Louis Cardinals (1969-74), New York Mets (1975-77). Torre, still primarily a catcher, played often at first base with the Braves, and later in his career became mainly a first baseman/third baseman with the Cardinals and Mets. In his Major League career, Torre batted .297, with 252 homers. He was a 9-time All-Star and was the NL MVP in 1971 with St. Louis when he led the NL in batting average (.363), RBIs (137), and hits (230). In '62, when Torre wore this jersey as a backup catcher, he batted .282, with five home runs and 26 RBIs. The Braves had an 86-76 record that year for fifth place in the National League. Torre was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame as a manager in 2014. He managed five different Major League clubs and won four World Championships with the New York Yankees. The offered jersey has a collar tag, with a very small piece missing, that is embroidered as, J Torre set 1 - 1962. Across the chest is Braves in red sewn-on letters with navy blue trim. Below the team's name is the traditional Braves' tomahawk, restored with a smaller version, with a stitched repair. On the left chest is 15 in red numerals with Navy blue trim. A working zipper runs down the front. On the left outside tail is a Wilson manufacturer's tag, showing size 44. The left shoulder has the "screaming Indian" sewn-on patch. On the back is 15 in sewn-on red numerals with navy blue trim. These numerals have been reinforced, but not restored. The jersey shows good wear, with a few small stains, yet remains in nice condition.
