Presented is a 1965 signed, personalized, and dated Captain Eddie Rickenbacker original photo. Before World War II, Rickenbacker was a professional racing car driver, and in later life, he became the owner of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for many years. Rickenbacker was a famed American fighter pilot in World War I. As a U.S. Army flier, he had 26 aerial victories in World War I, the most decorated U.S. pilot in the war. Among his many honors, he was a Medal of Honor recipient, and he was also awarded the French Croix de Guerre. In many ways, Rickenbacker was an innovator and created principles of engagement for other pilots to follow. During World War II, Rickenbacker was on a non-combat military flight that crashed into the Pacific Ocean because of mechanical problems. Rickenbacker and six of the seven other men on the plane survived for 24 days by drinking rainwater and catching occasional fish with their bare hands. Later in life, Rickenbacker became the very successful President of Eastern Air Lines. The 8x10" black & white photo shows a warmly smiling Rickenbacker in later life. Using blue ink from a fountain pen, Rickenbacker wrote, "With my best wishes 'To Mr. and Mrs. Bob Donnelly' Capt. Eddie Rickenbacker 1965." The photo has some light toning in the margins but is in otherwise excellent condition. The signature is 9/10. The signed photo has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA Certified as AUTHENTIC AUTO.
