Presented is an Oct. 10, 1956, World Series Game 7 ticket stub from Jackie Robinson's last game. The game was at Brooklyn's Ebbets Field before 33,782 when the New York Yankees crushed the Dodgers' hopes for a second consecutive World Championship in a 9-0 victory. The Yankees' Johnny Kucks shut out Brooklyn on three hits. The Dodgers' starter, Don Newcombe, took the loss. Yogi Berra hit a pair of two-run homers for the Yanks, Elston Howard had a bases-empty homer, and Bill Skowron hit a Yankee grand slam. Robinson had not announced that he was retiring, so fans and even teammates were unaware that this game would be Robinson's playing farewell. Robinson broke the Major League "Color Line" in 1947 when he was already 28 years old, so in 1956 when he was 37, he had slowed down and was not the player he had been earlier. For his Major League career, Robinson batted .311. He was the NL Rookie of the Year in '47 and the NL MVP in '49, when he led the NL in batting, with a .342 average. For his career, Robinson hit 137 homers and stole 197 bases, and he was a part of six Dodgers pennant winners and the team's lone Brooklyn World Championship, in '55. The offered ticket stub measures 2.25x4.25". It reads, in part, "1956 WORLD SERIES/DODGERS/Enter Gate E/Lower Stand Reserve Seat $7.35." The stub has the normal darkening and foxing common to tickets and stubs of this age. The stub has been encapsulated and PSA graded FR 1.5. It's a great memento for Jackie Robinson's Hall of Fame career and his standing as an American civil rights pioneer.
