Pair of rare original Type I photographs capturing pregame action at Redland Field in Cincinnati during the infamous 1919 World Series in which eight members of the White Sox conspired to "throw" the Series. Each of these snapshot photos was taken from the perspective of the grandstand, just to the right of home plate. The first image pictures one of the clubs taking infield practice prior to the game. A vintage ink notation along the base reads, World Series Game Cin. Reds Chicago White Sox Cincinnati Ohio Oct. 1911. The second photo captures what appears to be both clubs meeting at home plate prior to a game. (One can see the public address man addressing the crowd, via a megaphone, near the pitcher's mound.) The Reds hosted games 1, 2, 6, and 7 during the 1919 World Series, which Cincinnati won in eight games (the Series was a best-of-nine that year). Each photo measures 5x4" and remains in Excellent condition.
