Historic baseball has 13 signatures including a pair of gems from New York Yankees immortals Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. This magnificent specimen was once part of the vaunted Barry Halper Collection and sold in his 1999 Sotheby's Auctions; this lot includes the original invoice envelope (invoice is not present) and trading card set given out at the sale. Ruth (7.5/10) and Gehrig (8/10) are the strongest signatures on this "Special League" ball, with other autographs including Rabbit Maranville, Paul Derringer, Roy Alexander, Gene Schott, Wally Berger, Elbie Fletcher, and others. The ball exhibits heavy toning but several of the signatures still present quite nicely, thanks in part to a very light protective coating of shellac applied to the entire surface. The Bambino's recognizable penmanship in fountain ink is present across the sweet spot, with the Iron Horse in black on a side panel just a few inches to the right. Generations later, Ruth and Gehrig remain two of the most coveted autographs in the hobby, and this is a superb example with both in high quality and close proximity. Comes with PSA LOA.
