Presented is a 1926 New York Football Giants' Polo Grounds sterling silver season pass. The team, then and now, is called the "Football Giants" to distinguish the franchise from the former New York Giants baseball team. The '26 season was only the Giants' second season in the National Football League. The NFL in that year had an unwieldy 22 teams and the league schedule was haphazard, with teams playing different numbers of regular season games. Teams included a number of small market clubs, such as the Hartford Blues, Providence Steam Roller, Racine Tornadoes, Canton Bulldogs, Pottsville Maroons, Duluth Eskimos, and Green Bay Packers. Of those teams, only the Green Bay Packers survive. In '26, the Giants' owner was Tim Mara and the head coach also was a guard on the team - Doc Alexander. Fullback Jack McBride was the Giants' top scorer that year, with 48 points on five rushing touchdowns, 15 kicked points after touchdown, and a field goal. The New York Football Giants had a '26 season record of 8-4-1, good for 6th place in the league. The Giants had a non-championship postseason game against the Philadelphia Quakers of the rival American Football League and New York won by a 31-0 score. The season pass is in the shape of a football, basically flat but with some curves to suggest the spheroid shape of a real pigskin. On it is an image of a player punting. The image of the punter is raised above the background, and raised lettering reads, NEW YORK FOOT BALL GIANTS/POLO GROUNDS. (Note the spelling of FOOT BALL as two words.) Raised lettering and numbering on back reads, ADMIT BEARER NEIL MESSICK AND ONE To HOME GAMES SEASON 1926 No. 221. The season pass charm shows wear, with some tarnishing from the passage of close to a century, but overall, the pass is in nice condition. In consideration of the New York Football Giants celebrating the team's 100th season in 2024, this charming season pass from the club's second season should make an outstanding memento from the team's vintage days.
