HARDING LOA: This dress will come with a signed letter by Harding!

On January 6th, 1994, the most infamous event in women's figure skating history took place when Nancy Kerrigan was assaulted by Shane Stant after a practice session for the 1994 United States World Championships. Her injuries forced her to withdraw from the competition, and just two days later, Tonya Harding won the gold medal. Fast forward a few weeks to the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillenhammer and Kerrigan was back on the ice competing with the best in the world, including Harding. Kerrigan ended up winning the silver medal and Harding finished 10th. One month later, on March 30th, Harding pled guilty to her involvement in the scandal, which ultimately to her lifetime ban from figure skating and being the stripping of her 1994 US World Championship title.

Presented here is the outfit worn by Harding during the technical programs in the 1994 United States World Championships on January 7th, one day after the Kerrigan attack, and 1994 Olympics on February 23rd. The red sequin costume lacks a size or manufacturer tag, and is missing a small handful of beads around the neck. Shown in the listing is a copy of a letter from Harding in which she states: "This red costume was worn during the following competitions - 1993 Nationals & the 1994 Nationals when I won the competition, also it was worn in the 1994 Olympic games." Photo-match for the 1994 US World Championships is from a YouTube video, and the match for the 1994 Olympics can be seen in Getty images 671091760 and 462359756. True piece of sports and popular culture history.
