Presented is the very unusual opportunity to possess a near-set (15/16) of the 1964 Auravision Baseball Recordings. Auravision was a division of Columbia Records, and in 1964 Auravision released a set of 16 recordings of Hall of Famers and stars doing five-minute interviews, usually with famed broadcaster and Olympian Marty Glickman. This 1964 set followed an earlier Auravision 1962 set. The '64 Auravision set is often listed as a card set. The square record measures 6.75x6.75". Except for a green border, almost the entire front of the recording/card is comprised of a beautiful, color photo of the player. The grooves of the 33 1/3 RPM recording can be seen on the front. The unnumbered 1964 set of 16: Hall of Famers Mickey Mantle, Don Drysdale, Warren Spahn, Sandy Koufax, Whitey Ford, Bill Mazeroski, Al Kaline, Willie Mays, Ernie Banks, and Frank Robinson. Stars: Roger Maris, Ken Boyer, Rocky Colavito, Pete Ward, Jim Gentile, and Bob Allison. The interviews were done in spring training in Florida. Glickman interviewed all but Spahn (interviewed by broadcaster Chuck Thompson) and Colavito (interviewed by broadcaster Ernie Harwell). The Willie Mays 1964 recording is listed as a short print run, and the Mays recording is the only one missing from this near-set. They were originally available as a promotional item from Milk Duds candy and Meadow Gold Milk containers. These gorgeous recording cards, all unused, average NRMT, and they have great all-time stars, high vintage nostalgia, and terrific eye appeal - as they just pop with color.
