Displayed is a 1946 Brooklyn Dodgers team-signed baseball with twenty-eight (28) signatures. Under Hall of Fame manager Leo Durocher, the '46 Dodgers finished in tied for first place in the NL with the St. Louis Cardinals, with a 96-60-4 record, but the Dodgers lost the first two games in a best-of-three game playoff series, and the Cardinals won the pennant. Dodgers outfielder Dixie Walker batted .316 that season. Carl Furillo, a rising star outfielder, batted .284. Hall of Fame shortstop Pee Wee Reese batted .284 and Augie Galan hit .310. Hall of Fame outfielder Joe Medwick hit .310 in limited duty. Two of the Dodgers' key hurlers were starter Kirby Higbe, who went 17-8, and reliever Hugh Casey, who was 11-5. The 28 signatures include: Hall of Famers Reese, Durocher, and Medwick (with both Durocher and Medwick on the sweet spot). Also, stars Pete Reiser, Walker, Furillo, Casey, Higbe, Galen, Cookie Lavagetto, and Ralph Branca. Also includes Bruce Edwards, Cal McLish, Ed Miksis, Hank Bohrman, Joe Hatton, and Howie Schultz (also a professional basketball player), and more. The Official National League Baseball (Frick) is clean but shows some slight darkening because of the passage of time. The signatures, all in ink, average 7.5/10.
