Presented is a real find for New York Mets' fans, and for all those who love miracles: A high-grade 1969 World Champion New York Mets' team-signed baseball. The Mets debuted in 1962, as a team displaying lovable ineptitude. New York area fans were starved for a return of National League baseball since the departure of both the New York Giants and the Brooklyn Dodgers after the 1957 season. So, even with a first-season record of 40-120, a winning percentage of merely .250, the Mets were adored by New York City baseball aficionados. In the Mets' first seven seasons, the club finished five times in last place (10th) and two times in ninth place. By 1968, the Mets and the team's manager, Gil Hodges, knew that the club's brilliant young pitchers were on the verge of stardom. Then came 1969, and the Mets rocketed into a first-place finish and defeated the Baltimore Orioles 4-1 in games in the World Series. The team became, then and forever, the "Miracle Mets." Left fielder Cleon Jones batted .340 on the year, center fielder Tommy Agee had 26 homers, and Hall of Fame pitcher Tom Seaver was 25-7, with a 2.21 ERA. The Spalding Official Pro League baseball has 24 signatures, distributed among all panels. The signatures are in black or blue ink from a ballpoint pen. Hall of Famers include manager Gil Hodges (SS), pitcher Nolan Ryan, and coach Yogi Berra. Missing is Tom Seaver. Other key signatures: C. Jones, E. Yost (coach), J. Pignatano (coach), E. Kranepool, J. Koosman, E. Charles, D. Clendenon (1969 World Series MVP), C. Koonce, Gary Gentry, Al Weis, Jerry Koosman, and Wayne Garrett. Coach Rube Walker's signature is faded, but still legible. Overall, the ball is in EXCELLENT condition. The autographed Mets' team ball comes with a PSA LOA and a JSA LOA, Certification Number YY52599.
