Displayed are six UCLA Yearbooks, with three of the yearbooks providing terrific photo coverage of Bruins basketball legend Lew Alcindor (now named Kareem Abdul-Jabbar). The Alma Mater of UCLA includes the lyrics, "She will conquer every foe," and from 1964-75, under Hall of Fame coach John Wooden, the basketball Bruins came close to doing just that as the team won an incredible 10 NCAA National Championships in those dozen years. From the 1966-67 season through 1968-69, Lew Alcindor was overwhelmingly dominant in college basketball, as UCLA won the NCAA Basketball Championship in each of his three varsity seasons. Presented is the opportunity to possess six UCLA Yearbooks, each one having great news, and particularly photo coverage, of Bruins basketball. The six offered yearbooks cover the years '64 to '69. UCLA won the National Championship in each of the years except for 1966. When Alcindor attended UCLA, from the fall of '65 to the spring of '69, the NCAA did not allow freshmen to play varsity basketball. Thus, the '66, '67, and '68 yearbooks cover Alcindor's freshman through junior years. The six yearbooks average more than 400 pages: 1) 1966 Yearbook - Contains 12 pages of basketball coverage, including a great article on "The Greatest Freshman Basketball Team Ever Assembled." Alcindor averaged 33 points a game, and averaged 21 rebounds, as the undefeated freshman won games by an average victory margin of 56 points, and the team averaged 113 points a game. These "Brubabes" even defeated the varsity. Three photos of Abdul-Jabbar. 2) 1967 Yearbook - Contains 22 pages of Bruins basketball coverage, including 16 black & white and/or color photos in which Alcindor appears. 3) 1968 Yearbook - Contains eight (8) pages of basketball coverage and 12 black & white photos in which Alcindor appears. The yearbooks show some wear, with minor imperfections from use, with some occasional smudges, small stains, cover wear, and occasional loss of small areas of finish. But overall, with the passage of over five decades since the yearbooks were issued, they are in reasonably good condition, especially the actual pages, which, except for occasional foxing and very slight darkening, are in very nice condition - in particular the basketball pages. The yearbooks measure 9.25x12", and as a unit, the six yearbooks weigh 35 lbs. The offering is a real find, a trove of material on Hall of Famer Alcindor (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar), both a college and NBA immortal, as well as UCLA sports - and anything else about UCLA during that 1960s era.
