This dinner was hosted by former Texas Governor John Connally and his wife Nellie at the Picosa Ranch in Floresville, Texas, on September 22, 1972. Nixon's signature is scripted in black ink and grades 8/10. The remaining signatures, including John Connally, have been scripted in brown felt-tip pen and grade 9/10 overall. Connally, a Democrat, served as United States Secretary of the Treasury under Nixon, but stepped down from that position in May, 1972, to head "Democrats for Nixon," a group dedicated to fostering Democrat support for President Nixon.
