One-page typed letter, dated February 21, 1957, signed by actor Burt Lancaster. In his letter, written on his personal letterhead to entertainer George Jessel of The Friars Club of Beverly Hills, Lancaster offers his regrets that he cannot join the club at this time. In part: "I have always had a very strong feeling that unless I could be fully active in an organization it was unfair for me to be a member. That is my situation today and I know you will understand.... I sincerely hope that some time in the future I will be able to help you Friars with your worthy goals." It is signed simply "Burt" in black fountain pen (grading 9/10). George Jessel was one of the founding members of The Friars Club of Beverly Hills in 1947 and he remained one of the club's officers for nearly its entire existence. The letter (6.5x9"; visible dimensions) displays two horizontal mailing folds and is in apparent Near Mint condition. Matted together with a modern photographic print of Lancaster. Total dimensions: 24x19". Full LOA from PSA. Please Note: The size and/or weight of this lot will necessitate an increased shipping charge.
