Presented is a 1957 original, Type I photograph of Mickey Mantle at the absolute peak of his Hall of Fame career. Mantle is standing next to Norm Zauchin, a first baseman of the Boston Red Sox. It's probably, judging from the background, that the photo is from '57 spring training in Florida, or from an exhibition game near the end of spring training as both teams headed north to begin the regular season. Mantle, with 536 home runs, still holds the Major League record for home runs by a switch hitter. The 20-time All-Star played his entire career with the New York Yankees, and he was a key member of seven World Champions. In the season before this photo was shot, Mantle batted .353, with 52 homers and 130 RBIs as he hit for the AL Triple Crown and won the AL MVP in leading the Yankees to the World Championship. In the regular '57 season, Mantle batted .365, with 34 home runs and 94 RBIs, and again won the AL MVP as a part of the '57 Yankee pennant winners. Zauchin played six Major League seasons: Boston Red Sox (1951, 55-57), Washington Senators (1958-59). He was 6'4", 220 lbs., and his best season was in '55, when he hit 27 home runs, with 93 RBIs, and was third in the balloting for the AL Rookie of the Year. Injuries shortened his promising career. The double-weight, silver gelatin photo measures approx. 8x10". It was shot by Catoe Studios, and Earl Van Dorn Catoe Jr was the former Mayor of Webb, Mississippi. An unknown hand has printed "1957/Mickey Mantle/Norm Zauchin" on the top area of the photo. The photo has marks in each corner from staples, otherwise, the photo is in fine condition. The photo has been encapsulated and PSA Certified as Type I AUTHENTIC.
