Poignant original Type I photograph capturing Babe Ruth being honored by the fans at Yankee Stadium during the "Babe Ruth Day" ceremony held on April 27, 1947. Ruth is pictured near home plate with several dignitaries, including Baseball Commissioner Happy Chandler and Yankees announcer Mel Allen. This was Ruth's penultimate visit to Yankee Stadium before his death in 1948 and over 58,000 fans turned out that day to say goodbye to their idol. The photo (8x10") displays a modern-day "Sporting News Collection" label on the reverse. Excellent condition overall.
