Displayed is a 1997 Geronimo Berroa Baltimore Orioles "Turn Back the Clock" Elite Giants jersey that is twice-signed by the outfielder whose nickname is "The Chief." The Baltimore Elite Giants were in the Negro National League from 1938-48. Before that, the franchise played in Nashville, Tennessee, in Columbus, Ohio, and in Washington D.C. The Baltimore Elite Giants never won a Negro National Championship but had wonderfully talented players, including Hall of Fame catcher Roy Campanella. Other future Brooklyn Dodgers - Jim "Junior" Gilliam and Joe Black - also played with the team, as well as other great players such as shortstop Tommy "Pee Wee" Butts, outfielder Henry Kimbro, and first baseman/manager Felton Snow. Geronimo Berroa was listed at 6'0", 165 lbs. From the Dominican Republic, Berroa played 11 Major League seasons, for eight different teams. In 1997, he split the season between the Oakland Athletics and Baltimore. In 83 games and 300 at bats for the Orioles, he batted .260, with 10 home runs and 48 RBIs. For the season, he hit .283, with 26 home runs and 90 RBIs. The offered jersey is gray polyester. Across the chest is Baltimore, in sewn-on black script, and "Elite Giants" in sewn-on block red letters over a black background. The jersey is trimmed in black and red. Six silver-colored buttons run down the front. On the left front outside tail is an AIS manufacturer's tag, a size "50" tag, and a size "L" tag. On the back is the sewn-on number 10 in black, block numerals. Berroa has signed both the front (on the left chest) and the back (near the right shoulder). Berroa used a black fine-tip marker to both sign and inscribe with each signature his number 10. the jersey is in EXCELLENT condition.
