Displayed is a cut, circular card, in the form of a two-dimensional baseball, that advertises "Meet the Stars and Champions of SPORT at the WORLD'S Fair New York 1939." That World's Fair was held in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, in the Borough of Queens, in New York City. Also on the card is a facsimile Babe Ruth signature, and "Member Advisory Sports Committee." The card has a diameter of approx. 3.1". The 1939-40 World's Fair drew over 44 million persons in its two seasons. It was the first world exhibition based on "the future." Television pioneer William Sarnoff introduced TV to the masses at this World's Fair, and the opening ceremonies, featuring a speech by United States President Franklin Roosevelt, were televised over station W2XBS, now NBC. World War II began during the Fair's first season, and many exhibits were affected by developments in Europe. Ruth retired from playing baseball in mid-season of 1935, with his final games with the National League's Boston Braves. He was a coach with the 1938 Brooklyn Dodgers and played exhibition games with them that season. He was no longer employed in professional baseball by 1939. Ruth signed card in ink from a fountain pen, employing his classic, beautiful script. Ruth inscribed and signed the card as "Sincerely Babe Ruth." The cut signature has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA certified as AUTHENTIC.
