Displayed is a pair of Derek Jeter game worn Nike Jordan brand batting gloves that were worn by Jeter during the 2012 season. Jeter was a mainstay of the New York Yankees for 20 consecutive years, from 1995 through 2014. The Yankee Captain, Jeter had a Hall of Fame career that led to 3,465 hits, 260 home runs, and 368 stolen bases. "The Captain" was a 5-time World Series winner, a 5-time Gold Glove recipient, and a 5-time Silver Slugger. One of the nation's top high school players, Jeter was born in Pequannock, New Jersey, and grew up in Michigan. He spent summers with his grandparents back in New Jersey and became a Yankee fan, going to numerous games at Yankee Stadium. So, when the Yankees drafted him out of high school in the first round in 1992, Jeter signed with his favorite team, the Yankees, passing up a scholarship to the University of Michigan. Derek struggled early in his professional career: He batted only .202 in his first season playing for the Yankee team in the Gulf Coast League. The next year, he hit well but struggled defensively, making 56 errors at shortstop. Jeter explained it thusly: "I was the king of robbing a player of a potential hit, and then whipping it past first so the hitter wound up at second." Eventually, Jeter became the American League Rookie-of-the-Year in 1986 and a 12-time All Star. In 2012, when Jeter wore these game used gloves, he had his final highly effective season, even though he played an additional two years. In '12, Jeter batted .316 and led the AL with 216 hits, making the All-Star team. Each of the offered batting loves has a Nike Jordan brand logo. On the wristband of each glove is a sewn-on "#2 JETER" patch. The gloves have a size "L" sticker affixed inside and an inspector's sticker, one with is partially worn away from use in the right-hand glove. The gloves are in very good condition and exhibit fine use, with a few partially loose threads, some slight stains from pine tar and dirt, and with dimple wear, particularly on the palm of the right-hand glove. The gloves were obtained by a former Orioles employee when the Yankees played in Baltimore. The game used gloves make a great memento for Jeter's iconic Yankee career.
