Pete Rose reigns as the Major League all-time Hit King with 4,256 hits. Presented is a 1969 Pete Rose (Ohio) license plate that Charlie Hustle ordered for his car. Rose has never been particularly shy about calling attention to his baseball talent, and the attractive license plate makes it clear to any discerning baseball fan that the viewer of the license plate is close to royalty. Rose played 24 Major League seasons: Cincinnati Reds (1963-78 & 1984-86), Philadelphia Phillies (1979-83), and Montreal Expose (1984). He was the 1963 NL Rookie of the Year, a 17-time All-Star, a 3-time batting champ, and a 3-time World Series winner. Rose had a .303 career batting average. In 1969, when this license plate was issued, Rose had a tremendous season. He batted .348 to lead the NL in batting and also led the NL in runs, with 120. The plate measures approx. 5.9x11.75", and it weighs 8.5 ounces. A 1969 local tax stamp is affixed. The license plate displays Rose's uniform number "14" and his initials "PR" and "69 Ohio." The photo shown above is from Rose's 1973 car with exactly the same style, just in a different color. The plate has a few tiny scratches, a spot of about 0.25" where the finish color has rubbed off, and the local tax stamp has a few tiny rips, but otherwise the license plate is in EXCELLENT condition. Such a detailed, personalized license plate from baseball's Hit King will spark interest in any sports collection.
