Presented is a 1986-89 Howard Johnson New York Mets signed Louisville Slugger bat. Johnson was mainly a third baseman who sometimes played shortstop or the outfield. He had a 14-year Major League career: Detroit Tigers (1982-84), New York Mets (1985-93), Colorado Rockies (1994), Chicago Cubs (1995). For his MLB career, he batted .249, with 228 home runs and 231 steals. He was a World Champion with the 1984 Detroit Tigers and the 1986 New York Mets. Known as "Hojo," he was a 2-time Gold Glove winner for his play at third base, a 2-time Silver Slugger winner, and a 2-time All-Star. His best offensive season was in 1991, when he led the NL in homers (37) and RBIs (117). The offered bat is 35.0" in length and weighs 31.1 ounces. On the barrel is etched: "GENIUNE M253 [model]/Howard Johnson [in a facsimile signature], LOUISVILLE SLUGGER." The ash bat has a flame-burned finish. It is uncracked with excellent use. Johnson's number (20) is written on the knob, in black marker by an unknown hand. The bat is autographed and inscribed (20) on the right barrel in blue marker. PSA/DNA states, "We have no opinion as to the authenticity of the signature." The bat comes with a PSA/DNA Letter of Grading and Certification which shows a certification of "1B31274" (on a sticker on the lower barrel) and a bat grade of PSA GU 8.5.
