When one talks about Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, the word "amazing" comes off as a decided understatement. A dual professional star in both football and baseball, Sanders' last pro football game (and his final game as a pro athlete) was on Jan. 1, 2006, with the Baltimore Ravens against the Cleveland Browns at Cleveland Browns Stadium. Offered is the pair of game worn Deion Sanders Baltimore Ravens' cleats from his final game. Sanders often played both baseball and football in the same year. He played baseball in the Major Leagues for nine seasons (1989-95, 1997, & 2001), playing outfield for the Cincinnati Reds, Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees, and San Francisco Giants. He batted a career .263, with 186 stolen bases. The man known as "Prime Time" also played 13 seasons in the NFL: Atlanta Falcons (1989-93), San Francisco 49ers (1994), Dallas Cowboys (1995-99), Washington Redskins (2000), Baltimore Ravens (2004-05). He was a 2-time Super Bowl Champ and an 8-time Pro Bowl selection. Extremely versatile, Sanders played cornerback and had 53 career interceptions, for 1,331 yards and nine touchdowns. Giving fans a taste of vintage era one-platoon football, he also played off-and-on as a wide receiver, usually for a number of plays in the same game in which he was playing cornerback and returning punts and kicks. He had 60 lifetime pass receptions, for 784 yards and three touchdowns. Regularly used to return kicks and punts, Sanders scored six touchdowns on punts and three touchdowns on kick-off returns in his career. In his last game, Sanders started at left cornerback. He had one pass defended and three tackles. He also had one carry on offense, for no yards. The Browns defeated the Ravens 20-16 to end the Ravens' 6-10 season. The Ravens' starting right inside linebacker, Tommy Polley, was given the game worn cleats after the game by Sanders. A Nov. 11, 2020, article written by Tony Reid in Sports Collectors Daily quotes Polley as to how he obtained the cleats: "I have Deion Sanders' last pair of cleats that he wore in a game. We played Cleveland and I said, 'Let me get those cleats.' I didn't even get him to sign them. Deion played so long that when I was young, I followed his career, then got to play with him. It was surreal.' " In each of the offered cleats, a tongue shows the white, black, and purple Nike pump cleats are size 11. Both heels and both tongues also have a Nike Swoosh. The cleats exhibit great game wear. There are visible dirt marks all over the shoes, with vibrant orange paint transfers on the left toe. Sanders is currently the head football coach at Colorado State University. The offered game worn cleats make a terrific find for anyone in the hobby, as Sanders is once again in the athletic limelight as a successful college coach, and his dual professional playing career is the stuff of legend.
