Rare Baltimore Orioles cotton banner displayed at Memorial Stadium during the 1966 World Series. This is the first example of this banner we have ever offered and it has a unique provenance. Our consignor's uncle attended the final game of the 1966 World Series at Memorial Stadium and following the Orioles' win he, like many other fans that day, "helped himself" to one or two souvenirs, including this banner, which was displayed in one of the concourses. It has remained in the family's sole possession since 1966. The colorful banner features the Orioles' bird mascot in the center, with the words "BOMB EM" and "BIRDS" lettered, respectively, above and below. A "Dettras Flag" manufacturer's stamp appears on the reverse. The banner (36x36"), which has a metal grommet at each top corner, displays heavy wear, including repair on the reverse to a few moderate tears along the top border. Given the amount of wear and the repairs, it is almost certain that this banner was displayed at the stadium throughout the 1966 season, and perhaps even previous seasons, in addition to the 1966 fall classic. The Orioles defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers in dominating fashion in the 1966 World Series. The Orioles swept the Dodgers in four games, recording shutouts in the final three. The Dodgers managed only two runs in the entire Series, which is still the fewest runs ever scored by a World Series team.
