Displayed is an original circa 1945 John Wayne Paramount Pictures Type I photograph. Wayne's facsimile name has been hand-scripted in ink. This is the original one-of-a-kind PROOF photo that made Wayne's Exhibit Arcade card.  Born as Marion Robert Morrison, Wayne preferred being called "Duke" as a young man growing up in Southern California, and "Duke" or "The Duke" continued as his nickname even as he starred under his stage name of John Wayne. Wayne played football at Glendale High School, in California, and earned a football scholarship to the University of Southern California, as a lineman. He injured his shoulder in a body surfing accident and lost his scholarship. Variously listed as 6'3" or 6'4", Wayne appeared in 179 film or television productions. He acted in many westerns and other films before becoming a star after appearing in John Ford's film Stagecoach. Wayne became an American icon and earned an Oscar for Best Actor for his performance in the 1969 film True Grit. The 8x10" black and white photo's facsimile John Wayne inscription and signature reads, "Good Luck John Wayne." A facsimile notation at the bottom of the photo reads, "John Wayne in Paramount Pictures." The bottom of the photo has a machine printed, "Copyright 1945 Paramount Pictures Inc." The photo has an editor's red pencil markings in the margins. The back shows an apparent editor's order form requesting the photo be cut to 3.5x5.5", and "good luck John Wayne" written in pencil by an unknown hand. Overall, aside from the aforementioned red pencil marks, the photo is in EXCELLENT condition. The item has been encapsulated and PSA certified as an Exhibit proof that is Type I AUTHENTIC.
