Murcer played 17 Major League seasons: New York Yankees (1965-66,
1969-74, 1979-83), San Francisco Giants (1975-76), Chicago Cubs
(1977-79). Growing up in Oklahoma, Murcer had Mickey Mantle as his hero,
and he was signed to a New York Yankee contract by Tom Greenwade, who
had also signed Mantle. Bobby had a .277 career batting average, with
252 home runs. He was named to the Associated Press American League
1970s All-Decade Team. After his playing career, he became a New York
