Offered here is the earliest Type I photograph of Disneyland we have ever seen. The charming image captures Walt Disney as he leads a young boy and girl, along with Mickey Mouse, on a string of pack mules. An "International News Photos" credit stamp appears on the reverse, along with a date stamp reading "1955 Jul 12 4:32" and several handwritten editorial markings. The date stamp is the most important feature of this photo because Disneyland did not officially open until July 17, 1955. While we do not know the circumstances that occasioned this photo, it was most likely a pre-opening publicity shot. The original Frontierland in 1955 had a station called Rainbow Ridge Pack Mules, and this shot appears to have been taken at that attraction. The photo (9x7") displays a small tear and an editorial marking in the bottom white border and is otherwise in Excellent condition.
